Swedish Massage Swedish massage, the most common type of massage found in the United States, is a system of long strokes, kneading, friction, percussion and vibration that can range from very light to very deep.
Deep Tissue Massage and Trigger Point Therapy Deep tissue work utilizes many of the same strokes used in Swedish massage. The therapist starts with lighter pressure to warm up the superficial muscle layers and progresses to the deepest level of pressure, working within the client tolerance levels. Deep tissue massage helps alleviate chronic muscle pain and muscle adhesions (knots).
Sports Massage Sports massage is tailored to an athlete and their respective sport. Sports massage is designed to help an athlete warm up or cool down before or after an event and aid in the body’s regenerative capacities following a rigorous workout or competition.
Myofascial/Connective Tissue Massage This technique addresses the fibrous connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs, holds the body together and gives it shape. This type of massage introduces heat to the tissue and works to restore mobility and soften tissue that has become rigid.
Hot Stone Heated basalt stones are placed on different parts of the body and used in the massage itself. The heat of the stones helps muscles relax, increases blood flow and calms the body to a deep relaxation.
Pregnancy Massage This therapeutic massage is designed to support the pregnant woman by addressing the dynamic changes that occur with pregnancy and safely relieving common discomforts experienced during and after pregnancy. Not only does this massage help mom feel better but also helps soothe and calm baby during pregnancy. This specialized massage combines various techniques from Swedish, Shiatsu, Reflexology and joint mobilization. This massage is performed by experienced therapists specifically trained in this technique.
Ashiatsu Meaning ‘foot’(ashi) ‘pressure’(atsu). Ashiatsu recipients are simply calling this technique ‘heaven’. The practitioner holds on to specially-attached ceiling bars to maintain her balance while ‘walking’ on a client’s back. This ancient barefoot massage has a Western spin known to improve posture, relieve pain and stress and provide an incredibly deep massage.
Reiki Reiki is a gentle method of hands-on healing that taps into the energy referred to as ‘ki’ in Japan, ‘chi’ in China and ‘prana’ in India. Reiki is a technique that addresses both chronic and acute conditions, gently and powerfully promoting balance among all the body’s systems and the regenerative processes of the body and mind.
Reflexology Foot reflexology is a form of bodywork based on the theory of zone therapy and involves working with the thumbs and, in some instances, fingers on reflex areas found on the feet. Reflexology is a method used to address ill-health, but is also used to prevent illness and maintain good health.
Tui Na/Amma Therapy Literally translates to ‘push pull’, Tui Na and AMMA therapy are regional variations of Chinese Medical Massage. They use a variety of hand techniques, acupressure and passive and active stretching to restore correct musculoskeletal relationships, neuromuscular patterns and increase the circulation of Qi (energy) and Blood. |
